Mageia 2 Installation

Description
Mageia is a GNU/Linux-based operating system that comes from Mandriva although now is independent and it is been adopted so quickly by the community. In this article we are going to perform a Mageia 2 installation on a virtual machine using VirtualBox VM.
Mageia GNU/Linux Download
This distro can be downloaded from mageia.org here. For our test installation we selected DVD 64 bit distribution.
VirtualBox VM Configuration
Select New machine on VirtualBox manager and provide a Name for your VM. Choose:
- Type: Linux
- Version: Mandriva (64 bit)
And click on Next
The recommended memory size is 512MB, we are going to select at least 1024MB to run well:
Keep defaults "Create a virtual hard drive now" and click on Create button
Select VDI and click on Next
Select Dinamically Allocated and click on Next
Modify to reach at least 10GB
Now we have our Mageia2 machine ready for install, only we need to mount the distribution media DVD on the virtual DVD. Select your VM and click on Settings, go to Storage on left pane, select the DVD and find in your disk the media file. Click OK button
Installing Mageia 2 on VirtualBox VM
Start the Virtual Machine created in the previous step. This is the first screen of the installation process, select the option "Install Mageia 2"
Select your language
Accept the license agreement and click on Next
Select your keyboard layout, if not present in options, click on More
Partitioning, we are going to use the first option "Use free space" and the installer performs the partitions for us
Package group selection, if we have more media, we can provide here to install optional packages. Select none and click on Next
Desktop selection, choose your option, we selected KDE
Wait serveral minutes while the installing is in process
Now starts the configuration process. Provide the root password and an alternative user data
Select your monitor
Summary screen, in this screen all the options selected are present. Click on Network Settings to configure the network
Select Wired (Ethernet)
This screen shows the interfaces, for us only eth0 click on Next button
Here you can configure an static IP, we have a DHCP server in the network, the DHCP automatic IP configuration is selected
Provide the hostname
Select "Start the connection at boot" to start the network services at startup
Select "Yes" on start the connection now, it will allow to upgrade the distribution with the last packages on the install process
The network is up, click on Finish
Back to the summary screen, click on Next
Select "Yes" if you want to upgrade the distribution right now
Accept all the messages and wait while the distro is being upgraded
The system is upgraded click on OK button
The installation is finished, click on Reboot
First startup
Login screen, login with the user configured in the install process
And finally this is the Mageia 2 Desktop
